Inside Plutarco: Madrid’s Bold Design Voice

Inside Plutarco: Madrid’s Bold Design Voice - Octaevo

Tucked away in the vibrant heart of Madrid, Plutarco is quietly (and sometimes not so quietly) redefining the city’s creative landscape. Founded by the dynamic duo Enrique Ventosa and Ana Arana, this studio pulses with a daring energy that’s impossible to ignore—a spirit that feels perfectly at home in the Spanish capital’s ever-evolving design scene.

From the moment you step inside, it’s clear that Plutarco isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about atmosphere. Their studio, a sun-drenched oasis filled with tactile samples and curated curiosities, feels more like a creative laboratory than a traditional workspace. Here, experimentation is encouraged, and the boundaries between art, gastronomy, and fashion blur into a seamless whole.

An Atmosphere of Family and Fearlessness

What sets Plutarco apart is their willingness to take risks—an approach that’s earned them a reputation for being “arriesgado” (bold). Whether they’re crafting an innovative retail space or reimagining a private residence, their work is always infused with a sense of play and possibility. At the center of it all is their beloved communal table, a hub for material tests, moodboard sessions, and spontaneous bursts of inspiration. It’s a gathering point that perfectly encapsulates the studio’s collaborative ethos.

A Palette of Passions

Color is central to Plutarco’s identity, with red serving as a recurring motif—a nod to both Spanish tradition and their own fiery creativity. Their influences are as eclectic as their projects: the timeless architecture of Le Corbusier, the sensory pleasures of Mediterranean cuisine (with a special shoutout to Greek food), and the ever-changing world of fashion. Music, too, plays a key role in their process, with Enrique favoring the infectious beats of Bad Gyal and Ana drawing inspiration from the melodic warmth of Club del Río.

A Mediterranean Soul with Global Curiosity

Despite their deep roots in Madrid, Plutarco’s gaze is resolutely outward. Their current obsession? Australia—a place whose raw landscapes and innovative design scene have captured their imagination. Yet, no matter where their travels take them, they always return to the Mediterranean for inspiration, finding endless delight in its flavors, colors, and light.
