Jaime Hayon x OCTAEVO

Jaime Hayon x OCTAEVO - Octaevo

Line drawings, gold strokes and Greek gods. The Spanish designer on play, risk, and why Valencia is his best-kept secret.

Adorned with Hayon’s characteristic line illustrations, the Jaime Hayon paper vases come in our signature shades white and blue with bold strokes in gold. As we always find great inspiration in ancient mythology, Hayon's face drawings match perfectly with our obsession with Greek and Roman gods. The result is a superb symbiosis of both traditions.

How would you define your artistic style?

Personal, free, lively, colorful and with a wink of humor.

What is your creative approach when facing new projects?

I establish a theme that I am attracted to and ideas start evolving around this narrative. I sketch endlessly and search for codes and approaches that I feel are fresh and exciting for me.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Everywhere, anywhere: nature, anthropology, lost worlds and small details are very important for my inspiration.

What is the importance of experimentation and playfulness in your life, and how do you integrate it into your work?

“Learning by doing” is my way of moving forward. I like taking risks and to explore new languages. The need for play is part of my personality and inevitable, it’s very important for me to have fun with what I do.

What unique opportunities have you experienced as a result of choosing to become an artist & designer?

I have had the opportunity to travel, to meet people from many cultures and to appreciate how each culture approaches realities and dreams differently. It gave me the possibility to engage in a large variety of projects, from products, to interiors, to art, furniture and all sorts of things. New challenges keep me motivated.

How do you balance work and personal life?

I don’t try to balance – it’s all part of the same pack. When I am with my kids though, I do try to fully dedicate time to them.
